Do The Same As My Brother Do

Cowpokes tape, tuck, and get ready to assemble tack and broncos in the background cut and thrust in anticipation for what is to come. Exhibited and sold as a diptych, this pair of prints was composed during preparation for rodeo competition in rural North Elko County, Nevada. 

Northeastern Nevada is the center of Nevada's Cowboy Country, and is incredibly rugged. As the fourth largest county in the Continental United States, help is often three, sometimes four hours away if injuries occur while rodeoing or working. I was fortunate to share time getting to know and photographing some of the cowpokes of Elko and beyond. Their quiet determination and dedication to craft in the face of consequential circumstance is an inspiration.  

I chose the diptych form to exhibit these prints in that it forces a connection between two elements. Whether linked by resemblance or by disparity - the difference between them becomes the subject of the overall piece - from face hidden to half shown.
