Nicholas Ioan Lazaroae

Nicholas Ioan Lazaroae (b.1999) is an award-winning, Romanian-American photographer based in Northern Utah.Lazaroae's practice is multi-faceted, and centered on transcending the distance from viewer to subject in an atomized world. His work encourages the viewer to ask questions that challenge their conceptions of photography, of art generally, and of the American experience. His practice is a way of introducing people to other people by bearing witness.His ongoing projects include: Rodeo in the Rocky Mountains, the Architecture of Power, a changing American West, Allegiance to the Act: Rock Photography on the Wasatch Front, and giving breadth and identity to the ordinary.

Lazaroae's work has reached a global audience through his commercial product photography in the cycling industry and collaboration with the Rocky Mountain Professional Rodeo Association.

He is an active member of the Northern Utah art community and is represented by Gallery 25 and Ogden Valley Art Gallery. His work can be found in various private, public, and corporate collections in multiple US states, the Kingdom of Belgium, The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Austria, and România.

Lazaroae is a resident artist at the Nature Conservancy’s Canyonlands Research Center in Canyonlands National Park as part of Fieldworks: Canyonlands through the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.

Lazaroae holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems from Indiana University Bloomington and is a Co_Lab graduate of the Matthew S. Browning Design Lab at Weber State University. He is a professional member of the National Press Photographers association. His interests include reading, slot canyons, sacred flute practice, and Eastern European icons. He is an Eagle Scout.
